At Tasse Coffee Roastery, we recently had the pleasure of welcoming a special guest from Hong Kong. This young lady arrived with a dream and a determination to learn the art of coffee, and her journey with us was both inspiring and unique.
A Passion Ignited
Our guest, who had no prior knowledge about coffee, decided to embark on a journey to become a barista. With aspirations to open her own coffee shop in Hong Kong, she chose to take the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) Barista Foundation course at our roastery in Tokyo. Her enthusiasm and willingness to learn from scratch were truly admirable.
A Unique Teaching Experience
What made this experience particularly special for us was the language of instruction. Typically, our courses are conducted in English, but this time, we had the opportunity to teach in Cantonese. It was a delightful surprise and a wonderful experience to use Cantonese to share our passion for coffee.
Learning the Fundamentals
Over the course of the training, we covered the essential skills and knowledge required for a barista. From understanding the coffee bean journey, espresso extraction, and milk steaming techniques, to learning about the different brewing methods, our student embraced every aspect of the training with great enthusiasm.
A New Skillset and a Dream Realized
By the end of the course, she had gained a solid foundation in barista skills. It was incredibly rewarding to see her progress and confidence grow. She left with a new skillset and a clear vision for her future coffee shop in Hong Kong.
The Joy of Teaching in Cantonese
For us at Tasse Coffee Roastery, this was a remarkable experience. Teaching the SCA Barista Foundation course in Cantonese allowed us to connect with our student in a more personal way. It highlighted the importance of language and culture in the learning process and made the entire experience more enriching for both the student and the instructor.
