We are proud to present this exceptional Geisha lot from one of the regions we’re currently most focused on: Planadas, Tolima, Colombia.
Planadas, once heavily affected by guerrilla conflict up until the early 2000s, remains a remote and challenging area to access. Reaching the farms requires over four hours of travel across unpaved mountain roads and streams — a journey only few are willing to make. Yet those who do are rewarded with a landscape rich in biodiversity and extraordinary coffee-growing potential.
This particular lot was produced on El Proceso farm, located at an impressive altitude of 2,000 meters. The producer, Yeison Vargas, has earned our continued trust with consistently high-quality harvests in past collaborations.
For this RS29 lot, Yeison carefully cultivated Geisha trees and applied a 62-hour anaerobic fermentation, followed by a honey process. The fermentation was tightly controlled — both oxygen and temperature were carefully managed to preserve the coffee’s clarity and bring out its natural potential.
While Geisha is known for its signature floral aromas, this lot adds an elegant, creamy mouthfeel and a gentle sweetness that speaks to the terroir of Planadas. The result is an exquisitely balanced cup that conveys its excellence to the drinker with unmistakable clarity — truly a top-tier representation of the Geisha variety.
The fermentation process was overseen by Jorge Elias, a highly respected local processor who placed 3rd in the 2022 Cup of Excellence (his debut year) and ranked among the top again in 2023. Jorge is now regarded as one of Planadas’ leading coffee innovators.
We continue to work closely with Jorge through regular cupping sessions, developing profiles tailored for the Asian market. Since last year, new equipment has been installed in the processing plant to further refine fermentation control, leading to even greater stability and precision. The results are already showing — and Jorge’s process innovation is only just beginning.
Though we’ve featured coffee from El Proceso before, it remains a farm with tremendous potential, and we look forward to showcasing many more exceptional lots from this origin in the future.
