Description

We are delighted to present the Ethiopia Gesha Village Chaka Natural, an extraordinary coffee from the renowned Gesha Village Estate, situated in the lush forests of the Bench Maji zone in Southwestern Ethiopia.

About Gesha Village Estate:

Established from the ground up by Adam Overton and his wife Rachel Samuel, the Gesha Village Estate lies adjacent to the birthplace of the Gesha variety. The farm’s land was traditionally protected by the indigenous Me’en people, guardians of the forest for centuries. Through extensive dialogue and mutual respect, the owners collaborated with the Me’en community to develop the farm, emphasizing environmental conservation and job creation.

Their commitment to quality and sustainable practices has propelled Gesha Village Estate to international acclaim. The farm is celebrated for producing some of Ethiopia’s finest coffees and for pioneering micro-lot production in the country, captivating baristas and roasters worldwide.

Discovery of the Gesha Varieties:

Inspired by their documentary filmmaking, Adam and Rachel fell in love with the region and embarked on an expedition to the nearby Gori Gesha Forest, about 20 kilometers from the farm. Immersed in the enchanting aroma of jasmine, they discovered the original habitat of the Gesha variety.

They collected seeds from various wild coffee trees and selected six varieties for experimental cultivation. After years of dedication and refinement, they narrowed it down to three exceptional varieties:

Gori Gesha

Gesha 1931: Closely resembling the original Gesha in appearance, cup profile, and genetics.

Illubabor Forest

Processing Method:

This coffee is processed using the Natural method. Ripe cherries are carefully handpicked and sun-dried on African beds, a traditional Ethiopian technique that enhances the coffee’s inherent fruity characteristics and contributes to its complex flavor profile. The meticulous attention to detail during processing ensures the highest quality in the final cup.

Flavor Profile Highlights:

Floral Notes: Prominent jasmine and citrus blossom aromas characteristic of high-quality Gesha coffees.

Fruit Flavors: Sweet stone fruits like peach and apricot, along with bright citrus notes, provide a refreshing taste.

Honey and Black Tea Undertones: Subtle hints of honey add sweetness, while black tea notes contribute to the coffee’s depth and complexity.

Silky Mouthfeel: A smooth, tea-like body enhances the overall drinking experience.
